National Poetry Day

We’ve been putting poetry on posters for decades. From the heart of New Zealand to American streets and famous spots around Europe, sharing poetry is part of the Phantom Billstickers legacy.

Every year on the fourth Friday in August, Phantom Billstickers sponsors National Poetry Day in Aotearoa. Events take place across the country to unleash the power of poetry. From cabaret to haiku competitions to poetry on the beach, the creativity of the celebrations impresses year after year.

In 2021, Covid crashed the party, sending the nation into Level 4 lockdown. Undeterred, Kiwis went online. National Poetry Day and Phantom Billstickers hosted a virtual open mic on our social channels. Throughout the day we shared the poetry of everyday Kiwis as well as NZ’s renowned poets like David Eggleton and Tusiata Avia and many competition winners. #NZPoetryDay trended at #2 for the day, reflecting the country’s vibrant support of poetry.

Some events have been postponed and we look forward to sharing them as they happen. Follow Phantom Billstickers and National Poetry Day on Facebook to keep the poetry party going all year.
